World Champion triathlon contender Bradley Weiss
World Champion triathlon contender Bradley Weiss is our guide to the magnificent trail-rides of Grabouw and you are invited!
Brad Weiss is a national Xterra triathlon Champion, a winner of the Asia Pacific Xterra Tour. Living near the Hottentots Holland mountains Brad had a competitive edge which was much needed especially when your sport involves a forty kilometre ride, ten kilometre run and fifteen hundred metre swim.
After a broken wrist last year, Brad was soon out in front again and recently defended his Danao title in The Philippines. At twenty six, he’s en route to the peak of his powers.
Many local and international trail-riders, hikers and runners are attracted to the nearby Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve and Groenland Mountains. Entrepreneur, Pieter Silberbauer saw this as an unique opportunity in opening his very own bike hotel.
Pieter visited bike hotels in Holland and Japan for inspiration but soon realised that he needed help for this establishment to deliver what athletes, both pro and amateur, would expect. It just so happened that his neighbour was triathlon winner and chiropractor Dr Chad Gordon. With a passion for health and nutrition, he came on board as co-owner.
Being in the heart of wine country and the planet’s richest biosphere, this area is a favourite for triathletes from Europe especially. While tri-athletes altitude train to acclimatize to recovering with limited oxygen levels, this place is simply breath-taking. This year’s Xterra World Championships are in Maui, Hawaii in October and here’s to Mr. Weiss returning as the champ.
