Top Billing we meet the magic makers at Triggerfish
SA’s own Triggerfish Animation Studio has won three awards on three continents in 2017. This little fish is making some monster waves.
They have gone from working on the lounge floor to creating digital animation movies with budgets worth hundreds of millions of Rand. For such a small part of our film industry, they are having an outsized effect around the world and the awards say it all.
Long before winning back to back Cristal awards for Best TV Production at the world’s premier animation festival, Stuart Forrest financed the company with money he borrowed. There were many times when he wanted to pull the plug, but to his credit he persevered.
Revolting Rhymes was a project celebrating a hundred years of author Roald Dahl and his work. With the foundation being very selective who they work with, this was a great honour.
With all the attention and detail that goes into a movie such as the lighting it’s no wonder it takes six years to create.
Stuart has come far since working on his lounge floor with the studio creating new films and tv series, they will soon expand, creating jobs in tough economic times and making South Africa beam with pride.
