Top Billing meets the creative force behind Kahvé Road coffee
For the love of coffee - Rithen and Nazreen Ramlal trade top careers in finance and business to start a proudly South African brew.
Although our country exports a range of natural produce, we’re not so known for coffee. Perhaps not for growing it but when it comes to original blends, roasteries and even coffee labs, SA brands like Kahvé Road punch way above their weight.
From this innovative business, South Africans get five, original new blends and a dynamic coffee house in which to enjoy them. For its co-founder Rithen Ramlal, an actuary from a financial services background, it’s been a total shift in career.
Feeding the brand with exciting, refreshing blends and new thinking is the coffee lab, run by expert product developer, barista and curator Ernest Andrews.
Before Kahvé Road, owner Rithen bought a restaurant to learn about cooking, service, recipe construction and hospitality. Every lesson has gone into the new business.
Throughout the development of the business, Rithen’s partner has been his wife Nazreen Ramlal - whose Masters in Business Administration is quite an asset.
To try out the Kahvé Road blends his own way was 2017 and reigning SA Barista Champion Winston Thomas.
With a delicious menu, this original, South African coffee house now adds a capsule range, they retail online and are giving big name brands a run for their money. Respect!
