Top Billing follows artist Ramarutha Makoba on his journey to success
Every day, art studios produce work that sells. Because every week, new homes, hotels and offices are built with bare walls that need filling. It turns out that Ramarutha Makoba’s choice of art as a career has been a wise one.
Combining print processes, painting and charcoal Ramarutha creates amazing unique artwork. Ones which don’t stick to a blue-print but evolve as they are created.
With his natural talent and self-expression Ramarutha lacked the technique and took up formal at Art College.
The master’s technique has come a long way since his grandmother watched him drawing his favourite cartoon characters and encouraged him to take up a career in art.
With art classes having played such a positive a role in his life, the apprentice has recently become the teacher, giving his own lessons at the Emdeni Skills Development Centre in Soweto.
Whether these school children go into art or not, these experiences and disciplines have value beyond drawing or painting.
