Architect Phillip Fouche’s home proves how much you can do with your own two hands.
Raised as a country boy, architect Phillip Fouche came to appreciate the simple beauty in farm sheds, Ndebele building materials and the natural Highveld surrounds. His home was a chance to bring all three of them together in one.
It was natural for Phillip Fouché to build in this old, agricultural area outside Pretoria. Raised on the veld, the mielie and sunflower fields of North West Province, his architecture is also born of the land.
The interior architecture doesn’t miss a chance to surprise and innovate. For the décor, the Phillip loves to find pieces by chance on his travels and what he doesn’t find, he makes.
Around the house you find that wherever possible, Phillip’s choice of art and sculpture supports local artists. When he can’t find what he’s looking for, he takes the boermaak ‘nplan approach, and with great flair.
Phillip lives by the Greek word Meraki – which is the practice of doing your work with soul, creativity and love; putting something of yourself into what you do. His architecture and design is an open book on what matters to him.
