Top Billing features the legendary Ladysmith Black Mambazo
As Ladysmith Black Mambazo win another Grammy, one for almost every decade they’ve been together, we trace their story back to the beginning.
They formed in the 60’s and six decades of music later, they’re still winning Grammies. We’re speaking of Ladysmith Black Mambazo who recently held a series of sold out shows to honour their inspiration - Nelson Mandela – and no one could have done it better.
The signature harmonies first brought together by founder Joseph Shabalala are now lead by his sons, including Sibongiseni Shabalala.
The group pioneered this Isicathamiya sound and Albert Mazibuko was there from the start.
Audiences who’ve heard them collaborate with artists from Stevie Wonder to Paul Simon packed The State Theatre for these concerts to honour Nelson Mandela’s centenary.
From Tshwane we joined the group on The Dolphin Coast where they were filming a video for Neria, their latest collaboration with legendary Zimbabwean artist Oliver Mtukudzi.
Next, Ladysmith Black Mambazo are planning a concert with Oliver in Durban as well as the release of the group’s just finished studio album, in October.
