Textile designer Lesego Maloka shows us brilliant, new ways to wear our African pride.
If some see freedom as taking one of these out on the open road, to Lesego Maloka it means being free to express her identity through textiles. Batswana and Ndebele patterns are her heritage and she reimagines them in dazzling African pop art.
Once Lesego gave up her job in the film industry to pursue textile design, she self-funded her business Pone Creatives and soon found herself invited to the Design Indaba.
To compliment her background in graphic design, she taught herself textile techniques and opened up a world of practical applications for her work.
When her work was featured in 100% South African Design at Decorex, it was clear that the interiors industry saw the potential of her work in homeware.
While respecting the centuries long heritage they draw from, Lesego’s patterns and tones also manage to be hip, modern and chic.
Handmade or digitally printed, for your home, office or as an eye-catching accessory, Ms. Maloka’s designs offer the best excuse to wear our heritage with pride.
To honour your African clan and family history in a way that’s also very 2018, you want to speak to Lesego.
