Top Billing features a modern monochrome Cape Town family home
In photography, it’s a timeless aesthetic. It works on a chess board and piano keys. It is considered to be a byword for clear, unmistakable vision. Black & White is also the theme for this week’s location and it’s a classic.
Bryan & Cherisse Khoury by day are radiologist & financial journalist respectively and perhaps it’s the fact that they spend their work hours interpreting shades of grey in x-rays & economic indicators that they have found a love of a clearer picture - this being the simplicity of black & white.
Jade visits the couple in their unique home which was designed with entertaining their extended family in mind. Being Lebanese, this is something that couple do a lot.
Featuring parquet floors, bold, dark colours & wooden floor finishes, this homestead is definitely unique in its contrasting beauty.
The natural wood is reflective of Bryan’s psyche who is a surfer by heart while the five-star luxury is a clear indication of Cherisse’s personality. Cherisse wanted a blank canvas that she could constantly update thus she framed said canvas with parquet floors, wall panelling the immaculate high ceilings found in the stunning interior.
However, if you were to be a guest in this home, you would be treated to their Proudly South African wall in the guest room. It features distinctly African motifs to give guests an elegantly African experience when staying over.
The staircase, like the rest of the home, is exceptionally styled but the parents had to keep their children’s safety in mind. This home houses three children & each child had had their own approach & say as to how they wanted their rooms decorated.
The master suite itself is wondrous to behold & it’s here that Cherisse got to indulge her leaning towards the luxurious & modern. The natural light, garden greenery & postcard mountain views ensure that this room never feels like a hotel room.
The architecture found in the Khoury home is reminiscent of homes found in the Hamptons, with modern Georgian themes that have been adapted for South African outdoor living & alfresco dining. However, it was the wiles of interior designer Zeanne Duminy who took this broad look and personalised the family home, having been with them from day one.
With three children comes a lot of hard work and the Khourys have passed not only their work ethic onto their offspring but also the bonus understanding of art, architecture & design.
