Top Billing features a contemporary Cape Town home
Over the years, Top Billing has aimed to bring you South African architecture and design that stands as the equal of any in the world. This week’s featured home not only equals but beat those anywhere else on the globe.
Many contemporary homes in this area have won international acclaim with dramatic design. In this case, it was achieved with subtlety by the talented team of architect Kim Benatar and Interior designer Marius van der Meulen.
The owner had lived here for years in a house he built. He bravely agreed to demolish it, which removed structural constraints, and the rebuild made it so worthwhile.
Beneath its sophisticated design, this solar-powered home feeds excess power back into the grid, while keeping the television on.
Although there is heating and cooling for temperature extremes, in summer the overhangs provide passive cooling through design. Combined with the solar power, it makes this a home highly conscious of our environment.
There are few, if any places in the world, a top architect would rather work and we can see why!
