Women’s underwear is such a competitive market - which makes newcomer Megan Miller’s success doubly impressive. Her handmade, retro intimates are proudly South African, named after her grandmothers, exported internationally and the world just wants more.
The Nette Rose brand was born during Meg Miller’s fashion studies. Needing to earn extra money and knowing she’d be no good at waitressing, she tried making clothing. After an ill-fated attempt to turn blankets into coats, she saw a need for classic, retro-style lingerie, made her first bra on her bedroom floor - and so it began.
In Grade 1, Meg would tag along on her mother Jenny Miller’s fashion shoots and take in the spectacle.
It was the aspiring designer’s grandmother Nette (Janette Miller) who bought her first pair of fabric scissors and her other gran, Rose (Rosemary Paterson) who suggested that Meg attend a fashion academy.
Identifying closely with the style of the 1920’s and 50’s, this young entrepreneur makes her own clothing or buys it in charity shops and has her own take on what women want.
Photoshopping their images is a ‘no no’. Instead, Meg focuses shoots on women being so confident and comfortable with their bodies that there’s no desire to change a thing.
The best part of Meg’s work is getting a return customer and that’s starting to happen seven days a week! With good reason.
