A festival of Indian jewellery and fashion plays out in Durban and we bring you all the highlights.
For South Africans with a passion for the design and jewellery of India but who haven’t managed to visit that country yet – this year, India came to us. Over the three days of The Haute Fashion Exhibition, Durban became Delhi.
Held at a boutique hotel in Umhlanga, this event certainly beats buying your Indian fashion online or flying to the subcontinent to shop. Bringing the work of individual designers and fashion houses together The Haute Fashion Exhibition was curated for the South African market by Bollywood and Miss India stylist Eshaa Amiin.
Though shoppers increasingly buy online, from stores half a world away, Director of the event, Devangi Nishar Parekh knows that you can’t beat a first-hand fashion experience.
Among the more dramatic collections was a range by popular Indian television soapie stars Mayank Anand and Shraddha Nigam who create their own indian fabrics.
With a huge, domestic Indian market, designers like Amit Aggarwal are well placed to influence buyers around environmental issues using industrial waste in his creations.
The enthusiasm from the catwalk translated to plenty of late night shopping and the bonds between India and South Africa grew that extra bit closer.
