Top Billing goes on safari with the Bala family
Loyiso and Jennifer Bala have become a nation’s favourite family, with young Kenzie a star in the making. Top Billing joined them on a getaway to the breathtaking AM Lodge.
For The Bala's , a week at AM Lodge was a chance to recharge. For Jennifer, this was also a sentimental journey to an area around Klaserie River where her late dad spent years working. Having nearly completed his twelve track gospel album “Kingdom Come”, Loyiso was enjoying a week of family time to rejuvenate after a straight 6 months in studio. Because you don’t always want to take a drive to see the wildlife, the 5 star AM Lodge built views of the river into every seating and dining area. Just making your way from breakfast to your room, or going for a dip, offers a chance to see game. Sleeping, reading or bathing in luxury, all around you hear woodland kingfishers, doves and Piet My Vrous calling. The hand-reared Cheetahs from the local conservation Project are often seen at the main lodge and frequently walk with guests. On our visit they had just caught an Impala, so we kept a respectful distance.
For some much needed couples time, the Balas put themselves in the capable hands of the Wellness Centre’s spa therapists. A scrub with hydrating, organic, apricot kernel, baobab and marula is how it’s done here. While her mom and dad took five, pre-schooler Kenzie, who already sings loudest in her class, announced that she was ready to give her first TV interview. We were honoured! You can appreciate from her confidence that Loyiso’s been teaching his daughter singing and piano from the age of eighteen months.
