Top Billing follows love birds Ross and Callie Cronje to Mozambique
This week’s wedding theme has a twist as we accept an invitation to visit newlywed rugby couple Ross and Callie Cronje, on their honeymoon in Mozambique.
From this nature reserve of Benguerra Island, down to St. Francis Bay, the Indian Ocean coast-line has played a big role in Callie and Ross’ lives. She grew up on the beach in Durban, he went to high-school in the Midlands and first played professional rugby for the Sharks. Ross proposed on the beach in St. Francis and the love affair with the ocean continues.
A short helicopter flip from the mainland, over waterways navigated by humpback whales and dolphins, they sighted the Bazaruto archipelago. Our destination was Azura Benguerra boutique resort.
Among the hard and soft corals are parrot, clown and trigger fish. If you’re lucky you can spot moray eels. Callie and Ross were just happy to get away on an extended break - which is difficult with professional rugby running January to November.
Our getaway to Mozambique was a quick hour and forty minutes aboard Airlink, who operate flights between Johannesburg and Vilanculos as well as flights from Nelspuit to Vilanculos.
