As one of the most unusual eateries, gourmet popcorn store Maverick and Jane, takes the cake!
The butter salted variety has kept the world interested for this long but how about Olive Oil and Herb or hazelnut Rocher and Belgian peppermint? Alerting much of Joburg to this new gem has been blogger Angie Batis Durrant.
Her combination of mouth-watering photos and a nose for a compelling story is an irresistible combination. Whether you prefer sweet or savoury, they’ve got it covered. The business took seed in the mind of Chartered Accountant Rayhaan Jhetam when his clients began acquiring grain land across the world and he became familiar with maize.
As a small start-up they had to prove their business model to farmers and convince landlords that popcorn was enough to sustain a business. Rayhaan chose Nebraskan corn because the size of the popped corn is larger, offers a superior taste, texture and the husk doesn’t catch in the throat as other varieties do.
Come summer, they’ll also be serving Popcorn Softies of ice cream paired with popcorn in flavours from Bubblegum to Pink Lemonade.
